"... view of Brothers Water from Kirkstone Foot, Westmoreland. This being a well-known lake - named after two brothers who, tradition says, were drowned in it. Sometime after the 1850’s the spelling was changed to Westmorland and then more recently the area became known Cumbria, in the North of England, an area known as the Lake District. The road shown would have been the main road to Keswick
It is quite common to find these prints wrongly described as by George Baxter. This is a print by Le Blond & Co circa 1851 printed by Baxter’s patent process. Le Blond & Co took a licence from Baxter in 1849 and in time they were looked upon as one his main competitors. This small print comes from a sheet of 10 prints called ‘The Regal Set’ of miniature needlebox prints that were meant to cut into individual prints, as this one, and stuck onto the lids of small boxes contained sewing needles which were very popular at the time and now very hard to find in that state. This is a miniature of a larger print by Le Blond. They also great for other uses as our feedback states "Baxters are perfect pictures to frame for Victorian dolls house."
